How it works: from free survey to installed system
A clear, step-by-step process
Going solar shouldn't feel complicated. Our process is designed to give you the information you need to make a confident decision, without pressure and without jargon. From your first enquiry to a fully installed system, here's what happens at each stage.
Get in touch
Fill in the short form on this site or call us. We take a few basic details — your postcode, what you're interested in, and a good time to reach you — so we can arrange the survey at a time that suits.
Free survey of your home
A surveyor visits your home to assess the roof, the loft, the electrical consumer unit, available space for a battery and how your household uses energy. The survey is free and there's no obligation to proceed.
Your written quote and advice
You receive a written quote setting out the proposed system, the panels, the battery, the inverter, all electrical work, scaffolding and labour — with 0% VAT already applied where eligible. We talk you through it in plain English.
MCS-certified installation
If you decide to go ahead, the installation is carried out by our MCS-certified partner. We install through MCS-certified partners, so the system is fitted to a recognised industry standard.
Smart tariff advice
Once your system is in, the right tariff matters. We explain the smart tariff options so you can choose one that matches how your home now generates, stores and uses electricity.
What the free survey covers
The survey is the foundation of a good system. Rather than estimating from satellite imagery or a phone call, a surveyor comes to your home and checks the things that actually determine what will work. That includes:
- Roof orientation, pitch and shading — how much direct sunlight your roof receives across the day and through the year, including shading from chimneys, neighbouring buildings and trees.
- Roof structure and condition — whether the roof structure can support the panels and whether the covering is in good enough condition.
- Loft and internal space — routing for cables and a suitable location for the inverter.
- Electrical consumer unit — whether your fuse box is suitable or needs upgrading to accommodate the system safely.
- Battery location — a safe, accessible position for a home battery, with appropriate ventilation and clearance.
- Household energy usage — when you use electricity and how much, so the system can be sized to your actual life rather than a textbook average.
The survey typically takes around an hour. You're welcome to ask questions throughout, and the surveyor will explain what they're checking and why.
Why the survey is separate from the installation
We arrange the survey and quote; the installation is carried out by our MCS-certified partner. Keeping those roles separate means the person advising you isn't the person selling you a system — the advice stays impartial.
What MCS certification means
MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) is an industry-recognised quality scheme for small-scale renewable installations. Installation by an MCS-certified contractor means the work meets a recognised standard. We install through MCS-certified partners.
After installation: making it work for you
A solar and battery system is only as useful as the way you use it. Once your system is installed, we'll talk you through how to get the most from it — how to time energy-hungry appliances for when your panels are generating, how to use your battery to avoid peak grid prices, and how to choose a smart tariff that rewards you for shifting your usage. None of this requires you to change how you live dramatically; small adjustments, informed by what your system is doing, can make a real difference.
If anything needs attention after the installation, the MCS-certified partner who carried out the work is your point of contact for the installation itself, and we remain on hand to help with any questions about how to get the best from your system day to day.
No pressure, no obligation
At every stage, the decision is yours. The survey is free, the quote is free, and there is no obligation to proceed at any point. If you decide a system isn't right for your home right now, that's fine — you'll still have a clear understanding of your options, which is worth having. We'd rather you make the right decision for your circumstances than a rushed one.
We arrange free surveys and quotes; installation is by our MCS-certified partner. Loans available, subject to status.
